About Us

Connection Through Camping

We’re Here to Camp, and we’re here to provide the tools you need to explore and experience the great outdoors through dispersed camping.

Our Mission

It is our life’s mission to get you outside.  We believe one of the best ways to do this is through dispersed camping.

And its our belief that through dispersed camping, you will experience nature in more a profound and authentic way, creating a deep connection to yourself and the great outdoors.

And through this connection, we hope you develop a deep love and admiration for the power of nature, and will help us in our quest to preserve this sacred resource for generations to come.

Our Values and Beliefs

The Outdoors are Great

Getting outside is good for the soul.  Be outside as much as you can, however you can.

Practice Preservation

Our sacred outdoor spaces need to be cherised, respected, and protected to ensure they endure.

We're in this Together

The outdoors are for everyone, and everyone has part to play in their protection.

Why We Care

We’re campers just like you and we cherish every moment spent outdoors.  So much so, that we uprooted ourselves from well established lives in the heart of Chicago, to move to Colorado in search of a greater connection with nature.

Somewhere along the way, we discovered dispersed camping.  After giving it a few tries, we were hooked.  The solitude, the adventure – we loved getting out there and not being tied to a campground.  But, it was hard to figure out where exactly you could go dispersed camping.  The PDF’s from the Forest Service were hard to use, and nearly impossible to geo-locate.

We were driven to find an easier way – and that’s why we created our digital, Dispersed Camping Maps.  It’s something we use all the time, and it’s a tool we think you’ll love in planning out your next Dispersed Camping trip.

Our Story

We’re flattered and humbled that you made it this far down the page, and want to learn more about us!

Hey ya’ll – my name is Dan, I’m the founder of Here To Camp and a lover of the outdoors.

My life took a turn when I first watched the documentary 180 Degrees South back in 2013.  Something changed in me after seeing it – I became drawn to visit Patagonia.  This was an interesting turn in my life, as I had never been that interested in the outdoors before.  My dream became a reality 2 years later when I left my old life behind, and my wife and I spent 2 months traveling through Patagonia – with the pinnacle being our hike to Mt. Fitz Roy.  It was on this trip that the spark was lit, a passion for the outdoors and mountains ignited.

From that point on, I redesigned my life around the outdoors.  We moved to Colorado to be closer to the mountains, and we’ve been doing our best to be outside as much as we can!  The more time I spent in nature, the greater the connection I felt to it.  I felt more authentically myself, less stressed, and more tapped into an energy and concept of something that is bigger than me.  I always left my time in nature feeling reenergized and recentered.  Through these experiences I developed profound love and respect for the outdoors, and it’s what drives me everyday to share it with as many people as I can!

When not venturing into nature you can find me spending time with my wife and daughter, listening to music, and enjoying a good cigar.  See you out there!
